Tetenal Professional
PK RA-4 Instructions

Application:

Tetenal Professional PK RA-4 is used for processing enlargements from color negatives on RA-4 papers such as Kodak Supra, Ultra and Portra, Fuji Supra FA and other RA-4 compatible papers. Tetenal Professional PK RA-4 may be used in roller transport machines, Nova slot processors and JOBO rotary processors.

Mixing instructions:

Color Developer:

Water Part #1 Part # 2 = Working Solution
900 ml 50 ml 50 ml 1 Liter
4500 ml 250 ml 250 ml 5 Liters
( 18 parts) (1 part) (1 part) = Total volume 20 parts

 Bleach Fix:

Water Part #1 Part # 2 = Working Solution
800 ml 100 ml 100 ml 1 Liter
4000 ml 500 ml 500 ml 5 Liters
( 8 parts) (1 part) (1 part) = Total volume 10 parts

Keeping Properties:

After the bottles have been open they should be kept tightly sealed in the original bottles. Use of Tetenal Protectan Spray (Part # 109556) will help extend the life of the solutions up to six months.

Fresh working solutions kept in brimful and tightly capped glass or PVC bottles will last approximately 3 months, while 50 % exhausted solutions may last up to 2 months.

Yield:

Each liter can process up to 2 square meters of paper (approximately 38 8x10 prints).

Notes on roller transport machines:

  • For the final wash within the roller transport processor, please follow the manufactures instructions.
  • For the final wash out side the processor, please refer to the wash times for the rotary processor instructions.
  • Prints may be stabilized using Tetenal's Super Stabilizer (Part # 109326) instead of a final wash.

Rotary Processing in Drums:

General Instructions

  • Set the processor's speed of rotation specified for paper. For JOBO CPP-2 and CPA-2 using 2800 series drums set the P speed. For CPE-2 Plus use the 75 RPM speed. For the CPE-2 use speed 2.
  • It is important to maintain constant time and temperature for consistent results.   For the temperature for Bleach-Fix,  fluctuations of  +/- 3 ºC /5.4 ºF or longer times will not affect will have not effect on the final print.
  • Process times given in this table cover the period of time from when you first pour the chemical in, until you pour the second chemical or water in to the unit.
  • Follow the drum manufacture's recommendations on minimum filling quantities.

Rotary Processing with the Jobo Autolabs at 38ºC / 100ºF

The process temperature of 38ºC / 100ºF allows you  to switch between C-41, E-6 and  Professional PK RA-4 processes without having to change the temperature of the water bath. However the short development times may cause  uneven development in larger(20X24) prints.

* For processing at 35ºC a stop bath must be used.

** For the 30ºC  process it is possible to omit the stop bath and add 10ml (60%) acetic acid to each liter of bleach-fix.

For Nova processors gently stir the solutions in the Nova slots if they have not been used in the last 15 minutes, to make the temperature even throughout the tanks

Take the paper out of the solution 5 seconds before the end of the developing time to allow the paper to drain. Agitate the paper vigorously in the stop and bleach fix for the first 10 seconds.
