12. Operation

The PrintLab 3504 accomplishes the complete cycle of development, fixing, rinsing and drying of the materials, automatically. The process parameters can be individually changed for different types of paper and processes. On starting the machine, the unit goes into the ‘Stand-By’ phase after accomplishing a self-check and reaching the working temperature. This means that the set temperature of the working solutions is maintained. If a cleaning program is started before turning off the machine, the water tanks are filled automatically in approximately 12 minutes with water when the machine is turned on again. The machine has an automatic replenishment system.

Five infrared sensors register the width of the inserted paper without touching it, the machine is started (the transport rollers start turning, the dryer is activated) and after processing a surface area of 0.25 m2, a replenishment cycle is started. The replenisher rate per m2 (square meter) is adjustable.

Inserting photo paper

Open the lid of the paper-loading area. Put the paper, emulsion side up, on the paper-loading tray. Use the left or right wall of the tray as a guide to ensure that the paper is put in parallel Position to the transport rollers. Push it slowly forward (the machine starts working) until the rollers start transporting the paper. As soon as you have closed the lid of the paper-loading area, you can turn on the light. As long as the display --- blinks, do not feed any additional prints so that paper overlap is prevented.

Safety devices

When opening the cover of the unit, a safety switch turns off the drive.

All heating elements are fitted with a safety temperature cut out switch, which is activated in case the components overheat, and is re-set automatically after cooling.

Operation
Open water tap before starting the unit!

Close water tap after turning off the unit!

The unit incorporates a microprocessor that holds the memory of the programs for the development of different photographic materials and chemicals. All programs (as well as any modifications) are maintained after turning off the unit.

Self-cleaning program.  Menu Step 5

The PrintLab 3504 incorporates a self-cleaning system. This guarantees that the tanks and transport rollers are cleaned automatically after use. The automatic cleaning sequence empties all chemicals into airtight containers.

The following steps activate the cleaning program:

By pushing button F1 and by pressing ENTER, you get into the main menu. Choose the cleaning program by pressing the arrow-keys and confirm by pressing ENTER. The rest is shown via step by stop instructions on the menu driven display.

  • “Draining the chemicals”

The chemicals are drained into the containers located in the wall mount. They must be lower than the processor for the tank draining cycle.

  • “Rinsing”

The tanks are filled with approximately 2 liters of water. The circulation pump is activated.

  • “Cleaning”

The tanks are flooded with water. The circulation pump as well as the drive is turned on. After approximately 15 minutes, the water is drained off automatically.

Note: Approximately 150 ml water remains in the hoses after the cleaning sequence has been completed. This has no bad influence on the chemicals. The water roughly compensates the daily evaporation rate of the chemicals and avoids an increase in the concentration of the chemicals. The self-cleaning program should be turned on only once a day. The working steps described under point “19. Daily Care and Maintenance” are to be applied as well.
