17. Faults and Their Causes
Black density of processed material too light
- Process temperature too low.
- Processing time too fast.
- Exposure time too short.
- Developer used up, lack of replenisher, replenishing rate too low.
- Prepare new working solution and refill cubitainer with replenisher.
- Check replenishing rate, readjust replenisher pump.
Developer is contaminated with FX or BX
- Requires new mix of developer. All vessels need thorough washing before refilling.
Density of processed material is too high (too dark).
- Exposure time is too long.
- Processing speed too slow.
- Processing temperature too high.
Processed material shows stripes crosswise to transport direction, approximately 5 cm away from feed-in border.
- Solution level too low. Refill up to the overflow.
Processed materials shows gray/brown shade (not fixed sufficiently).
- Processing time too short.
- FX/BX used up.
- Check replenisher. Prepare fresh working solution.
- FX/BX accumulating water.
- Processor is not level or water outlet is not properly installed. Water overflows into tank 2.
Processed material does not come out completely dry.
Drying temperature is adjusted too low.
Processed material shows scratches or darker spots.
- Pressure on the emulsion caused by improper handling (fingerprints, creases).
- Dirty or damaged transport rollers.
- Scratches in transport direction indicate faults on guiding elements within the rack.
- Check transport rollers individually.
- Exchange mechanically damaged parts.
Inconsistent processing results with series of prints.
- Enlarger not equipped with stabilized transformer.
- Exposure time too short (lamp still glows after finished exposure).
- Prints were stored differently after exposure, which influences latent image.
- Processor not leveled, check level of solutions.
- Improper safe light. Run "paper fog test".
Power switch "ON" - No indication in LCD.
- Check power at socket.
- Exchange power supply unit.
Attention: When exchanging parts of the electronics, It is important to readjust motor and replenishing pumps.
Processor does not start automatically.
- Processor is in SET-mode.
- Processing temperature is not yet reached.
- Lid of processor is not closed.
- Replenishing rate on .04.
- Cover is not seated properly.
- Cover the five sensors one after other and check which sensor does not give signal according to the indication.
- Drive motor defect.
Processor does not stop automatically.
- Motor was switched on in SET-menu.
- Light-trap continuously "sees" prints.
Adjusted processing temperature is not reached or is reached after a long time.
- Air in solution pump. Solutions need to be filled only by means of canisters. (Take canister for 30 seconds from wall mount and bring them in emptying position. Replace them in wall mount).
- Defective heating element.
Non parallel paper transport.
- Check racks for proper position.
- Rack lock is not fastened.
Previous / NextWashing tanks are not completely filled after starting machine.
- During warm-up phase, program was finished with F1. Automatic filling of water was interrupted. Fill tanks by hand.
Magenta cast about 2.5 cm away from end of paper border.
- Dirty angled paper guide between CD and BX.
- Dry with a cloth or start cleaning program and clean racks apart from the machine.
Light stripes approximately 3 cm may from paper border.
- Insufficient pressure of transport rollers.
- Check super-cushion elements and replace them if necessary.
Processing temperature exceeds set temperature.
- Air in solution pump has not been bled properly.
- Room temperature is higher than adjusted temperature.
- Difference of temperature of adjacent solution tanks is too high. Temperature slowly adjusts through tank wall.
Drying temperature is not reached.
- Heater is defective.
- Fan is defective.
- Room temperature is too low.
Replenisher pumps do not work.
- Damaged hose. Needs to be exchanged.
- Defective motor.
- Replenisher empty.
No circulation of solution.
- Air in pump system (take canisters from wall mount for 30 seconds, bring them into emptying position and replace them in wall mount).
- Dirty pump.
- Pump has not been assembled correctly after cleaning
- Pump defective.
- Because of defective heater, pump was switched off.
Rinse water does not run.
- Water tap is not open.
- Water pressure below 9 lbs (0.5 bar).
- Filter in front of magnetic valve dirty.
- Solenoid valve does not open (defective).
Processing material is not transported properly.
- Check pressure of rollers.
- Check position of racks, they need to be secured by their locks.
Paper sticks on drying rollers.
- Moisture on paper, lift rack and remove paper from roller.
