Instructions for Loading the #3027 and #3028 Sheet-Film Drums

ΠThe drum and insert must be completely dry before attempting to load the film in the insert.

Remove the drum insert from the drum body and place on a clean, dry, even surface.

Ž   Load the sheet film emulsion side up in the insert, making sure every edge is seated under every ‘pin’ (see graphic below) on either side and one end. When the insert is rolled up, the film should seat itself under the pins at the other end

.

Pickup the insert holding the sheet film, curl, and slide into the drum body. (The interior of the drum has ridges running the length of the drum -- ignore these for this application). Replace the drum lid and press down evenly around the entire circumference of the lid to make sure it's seated properly.

After processing, use the #3360  Foot pump to open the lid. The Foot pump was specifically designed to open 3000 series lids. Place the stopper into the center of the cog lid firmly. Begin pumping by pressing the inflation bulb. While pumping, keep one hand firmly on the cog lid to prevent it from flying-off as the pressure builds up in the drum

.

If you prefer not to use the #3360 Foot pump, simply grasp the drum lid around the edge and slowly pull up evenly around the circumference. Do not attempt to pull from the center of the cog lid -- this may cause damage!

When processing with any 3000 series drum, JOBO recommends a rotation speed of 50 rpm (or ‘P’ on an ATL-1, CPA-2, or CPP-2). Adjust the level of the water bath until only the bottom ¼" of the drum is covered with water. Too low a water level may cause the temperature tolerance to fluctuate and too high a water level may cause uneven processing (the drum will not be level if it floats off the rollers).

Required solution levels will vary with different film types and processes. Use the following amounts as a starting point:

Drum Description Starting Quantity

3027 11 x 14" Sheet Film Drum 400ml

3028 16 x 2O" Sheet Film Drum 600ml

If results are unsatisfactory (particularly if uneven or underdeveloped) try increasing the solution amount.

NOTE: CPP-2 and CPA-2 Processors and Lifts can be damaged by excessive weight loads. When using the lift, be sure to use both hands to raise the drum when draining. Check the actual rotation speed of the drum; due to the weight, it might be necessary to slightly increase the rotation motor speed on the ATL-1, CPP-2, and CPA-2 Processors.
