Conversion Formulas and Tables
Metric to English,
English to Metric
Introduction
Most of the world, with the exception of the USA, uses the
metric system of measurements exclusively. In the USA there are many people that choose to
use the metric system. There are also those who are unfamiliar with, or just dont
'like' the metric system.
JOBO is an international company. As such, we want to be able
to provide information that is understandable to as many different people as possible. To
this end, we try to include both metric and English measurements whenever possible.
You may find other sources that publish information
exclusively in only one of the measurement systems. These tables will help those who are
not familiar with one system to be able to convert to 'their' system of measures.

Formula for Temperature:
Metric to English
Celsius to Fahrenheit
Exact:
9/5 C + 32 = F
Approximately:
C x 2 ~ F
Rough Example:
.1C ~ .2F
The 'Approximately' and the 'Rough Example' conversions
should be used only to figure changes to the original temperature, not for converting an
absolute temperature. For example, finding out how much difference 3/10 of a degree is OK,
but, 'what is 68 degrees F equal to in C' is not correctly converted (because of the 32
degree shift, plus or minus). Note: Some references may use the name 'centigrade' instead
of 'Celsius', they mean the same thing.

Formula for Temperature:
English to Metric
Fahrenheit to Celsius
Exact:
5/9 (F - 32) = C
Approximately:
F x .5 ~ C
Rough Example:
1F ~ .05C
The 'Approximately' and the 'Rough Example' conversions
should be used only to figure changes to the original temperature, not for converting an
absolute temperature. For example, finding out how much difference 3/10 of a degree is OK,
but, 'what is 68 degrees F equal to in C' is not correctly converted (because of the 32
degree shift, plus or minus). Note: Some references may use the name 'centigrade' instead

Formula for Volume:
Metric to English
Milliliters to Ounces
Exact:
ml / 29.5737 = oz
Approximately:
ml / 30 ~ oz
Rough Example:
90 ml ~ 3 oz
Ounces used for conversion are US fluid ounces. 8 oz = 1 US
cup. 16 oz = 1 US pint (pt.) 32 oz = 1 US quart (qt.) 128 oz = 1 US gallon (gal.) 1 ml = 1
cubic centimeter (cc.) 1000 ml = 1 liter (l.) Note: 'Liter' is sometimes spelled 'litre.'

Ounces to Milliliters
Exact:
oz / 0.0338 = ml
Approximately:

Rough Example:
1 oz ~ 30 ml
Ounces used for conversion are US fluid ounces. 8 oz = 1 US
cup. 16 oz = 1 US pint (pt.) 32 oz = 1 US quart (qt.) 128 oz = 1 US gallon (gal.) 1 ml = 1

Formula for Length:
Metric to English
Millimeters to Inches
Exact:
mm / 25.40 = in
Approximately:
mm / 25 ~ in
Rough Example:
25mm ~ 1in
10 mm = 1 cm (centimeter), 1,000 mm = 1 m (meter), 12 in = 1
foot, 3 foot = 1 yard.

Exact:
in / 0.03937 = mm
Approximately:
in / 0.04 ~ mm
Rough Example:
1 in ~ 25mm
10 mm = 1 cm (centimeter), 1,000 mm = 1 m (meter), 12 in = 1
foot, 3 foot = 1 yard.

Metric to English
Grams to Ounces
Exact:
gm x 0.03527 = oz
Approximately:
gm x 0.03 ~ oz
Rough Example:
30gm ~ 1oz
Ounces used for conversion are US weight ounces
(avoirdupois). 16 oz = 1 pound (lb.) 1000 grams = 1 kilogram (kg.)
