Sheet Film or Prints With Expert Drums
Introduction
The highly acclaimed JOBO Expert Drum is easy to load. Just
follow the procedure listed below.
Procedure
Always start with a completely dry drum.
Curl the film, emulsion to the center, and slip it into the tubes of the drum. Leave about
1/2" (12 mm) protruding from the tube as a 'flag' to indicate it is loaded. When all
sheets are loaded, press the 'flags' down into the tubes. While 4 x 5" film should be
flush with the top of the tubes, 5 x 7" and 8 x 10" should be pushed to the
bottom of the tubes. Load 4 x 5" film into the 3006 drum with the curl along the
5" length of the film. Load 5 x 7" film into the 3005 drum with the curl along
the 7" length of the film. Press the lid firmly and squarely on the drum.
Note:
Prints may be processed in the Expert (3000 series) Drums.
Use the film loading instructions above when using Expert Drums for prints.

3000 Series Drums
All 3000 series drums use a press-on, friction fit lid. The
lid may be difficult to remove by merely pulling the lid from the drum. JOBO makes a
special accessory to assist in the removal of the 3000 series lids. The Footpump (#3360)
uses air pressure to 'pop' the lid off the drum. Its parts are; a squeeze bulb, one-way
valve, hose and stopper.
After the process is completed,
remove the drum from the processor. Expert Drums should then be tilted vertically over the
upper trough, before leaving the processor, to drain the water from the bottom tempering
slots. Place the drum vertically. You may put larger sized drums on the floor. Insert the
stopper securely into the fill hole in the top of the lid. Press repeatedly on the
squeeze-bulb. Air is forced into the drum, building up pressure. After several squeezes,
the lid will pop off the top of the drum.
WARNING: The lid may come off with a lot of force! Do not place any portion of your
body over the top of the drum when removing the lid. Never blow into the lid for removal.
WARNING: Do not use any form of compressed air ('shop air' Dust-Off, compressor,
etc.) to remove the lid. This could easily damage the drum, or cause the lid to come off
with excess velocity.
Use this method to easily remove sheet film or prints from
the tubes of an Expert Drum. Place the drum vertically in a sink. Fill all the tubes
completely with water. The film will move away from the walls of the tubes. Grasp the end
of the film or print and lift it out of the water.
Note:
If the lid is difficult to remove using the procedure
listed above, you may lubricate the outside lip of the drum with a small amount of
petroleum jelly (Vaseline). Be very sparing in this application to prevent it from getting
inside the drum.
