Why does my JOBO Lift look like it is missing a transfer gear?

In 1995 JOBO began producing a slightly changed lift arm for both its AutoLab processors and its JOBO Lifts. It is most easily recognized by its black tank retaining clips. In the older lift arms, the tanks were held in place by white retaining clips.

In the Autolabs 2000, 3000, and now 2200, 2300, 2400 and 2500, we began using 2 transfer gears (the small white gear in the lift arm which turns the tank) in order to improve the way the processor handled 3000 series drums. But this also requires that the rotation motor completely stops turning as the lift arm raises up, and the motor remains stopped until the lift arm returns to its horizontal position. New circuitry was needed to accomplish this.

Since we use essentially the same tool to mold both the AutoLab lift arms and the JOBO Lifts for manual processors, there is a space for two transfer gears in the manual JOBO Lift. However only one gear should ever be used! Since the motor system on the manual processors continues to turn the main drive cog using two gears would cause major clashing of the gears as the lift arm is lowered. Ultimately this would cause premature aging of the lift motor and the gears.
