BULLETIN #B026

Battery Backup Modification for the
ATL-2200/2300/2400/2500 Processors
(JOBO #4268)

You will need:

  • JOBO Battery Backup Assembly (JOBO Part #4268) [includes battery backup unit, instructions, power cord, and extension power cord.]

Introduction:

This bulletin will instruct you how to correctly install the JOBO #4268 Battery Backup Modification on your ATL-2200, ATL-2300, ATL-2400, or ATL-2500 processor.

The battery backup modification will allow the processor to complete a developing run or process in the event power to the processor is lost during a developing or processing session.

If power is lost, the battery backup unit will instantaneously provide the needed electrical power to your Autolab (without your Autolab even knowing it is running on battery power...it is that transparent!). There is enough battery power to run your Autolab for at least one and one-half (1½) complete six step E-6 process runs so you are guaranteed to complete a six step E-6 process if power is lost in the middle of the process!

Operational Point:

In the event of a power loss, the battery backup unit will instantaneously provide the needed power to your Autolab processor, however not to all of the devices in the Autolab. The only device not powered by the battery backup unit is the water bath heater. The water bath heater draws too much current for the battery to sustain it for the total remaining time in a process. This is not a problem. The circulating water bath will retain enough residual heat to successfully finish the process.

The battery backup unit JOBO has chosen to provide you is the best in the market. It is currently the only battery back up unit in its class that passes the UL 1449 testing standard! The UL 1449 standard states that the protecting device must be able to protect against a direct lightning strike to the electrical line. JOBO's battery backup unit will also protect your Autolab from any electrical surges, brown-outs, or "electrical noise".

Procedure:

1) Plug the power cord (included with the Autolab) from the upper electrical connection labeled "115V" (located on the rear of the processor) into the electrical outlet on your wall.

2) Plug the power cord coming from the Autolab labeled "HEIZUNG / HEATER" into the middle electrical connection labeled "HEIZUNG / HEATER" (located on the rear of the processor).

3) Plug the power cord coming from the Autolab labeled "STEUERUNG / CONTROL" into the extension cord included with the #4268 battery backup unit.

4) Plug the opposite end of the extension cord used in Step 3 into the back of the battery backup unit.

5) Plug the power cord (included with the #4268 battery backup unit) from the rear of the battery backup unit to the electrical outlet on your wall.

WARNING!
DO NOT connect the "HEIZUNG / HEATER" power cord into the back of the battery backup unit! This will cause the battery to drain too quickly in the event of a power loss -- which will not allow the Autolab processor enough battery power to complete its process.

NOTE:
DO NOT plug any other power cord into the lower electrical connection labeled "STEUERUNG / CONTROL" (located on the rear of the processor).
